Things to do and eat in Fukuoka, Japan

Fukuoka is not that small of a place. Actual numbers bring the population about the 5 million mark, with the city with about 1.3 million people. With this many people around, you know it has got to be some thing to do. On any day of the week if you look, you will be able to find something that interests you. There are often parties in a field or another in the city of Fukuoka. With a little help from a friend or magazines domestic and foreign information centers, you will be able to know where festivals are held.

The city center of Fukuoka Tenjin to be (although others might argue it is Hakata). There is shopper's paradise in the prefecture. Feel need to do some shopping for some nice named brands from Italy or France? head on over to Tenjin. Want to let off steam and hit a bar (including foreigner bars)? Tenjin is the place to be. You want to meet new friends? Rainbow Plaza in. .. you will have guessed, Tenjin, is the place to do it.

Right next to Tenjin Nakasu is. Nakasu hosts nightlife entertainment but tends to respond the individual better off. However, Nakasu also has a huge shopping complex named Canal City which has so many stores that you would not be able to count them. The resort has many restaurants, two hotels, a large cinema and in the center of Canal City is an area called Sun Plaza where it is common find street performers doing their acts.

Of course Tenjin and Nakasu is not the only place where you can have fun. I live about 10 minutes of Tenjin subway in a town called Nishijin and I can do things almost as many here as I can in Tenjin. Bowling, swimming, football, billiards, game centers, and even a movie theater are just some of the things Nishijin and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Yahoo Dome (formerly Fukuoka Dome) is located in Momochi that residents of the sea is home to the Hawks Yahoo Dome in Fukuoka Softbank. The Hawks are a strong baseball team, loved by the city and its inhabitants. In fact, there are only two teams in the league professional baseball in Japan that attracts over a million fans for their home games a year, and the Hawks are one of them. When the Hawks do have a home game, you can sometimes find other activities occurring in the Dome. Yahoo Dome hosts various flea markets and concerts throughout the year.

Food, food, food!

In my case, Fukuoka has the best food on offer throughout Japan (though I hear food in Sapporo is quite good). Fukuoka has its own well known dishes and of course the chefs here are well capable of recreating dishes found throughout the world.

Yatai When night begins to fall on the city of Fukuoka you may suddenly notice many little street vendors (usually operating out of their vans) popping up everywhere on the sidewalks. These suppliers are a variety of foods ranging from ramen to yakiniku in tempura. Yatais them are really a site to behold.

Hard Rock Cafe in Fukuoka on the occasions when I miss American food and Mexican, I always have the option to head on over to Hard Rock Cafe right next to Fukuoka dome in Momochi. Momochi is adjacent to Nishijin so I am indeed fortunate. Hard Rock Cafe Fukuoka boasts the largest restaurant of its kind in Japan. The food is fantastic and of course the atmosphere is like any other Hard Rock cafes there. The staff is very friendly and since I frequent their establishment often I am extremely treated well with occasional benefits.

Izakaya Though not only found in Fukuoka, Izakaya restaurants deserve a notable mention. Izakaya offer a wide variety of foods and beverages more important at low prices. University students and business people can often be found these restaurants to discuss with colleagues and drinking a storm. All izakayas offer a different atmosphere, and with some research, you will be able to find one for you.

Fukuoka famous food

Fukuoka ramen Have you ever had that cup O ramen or that freeze dried packaged ramen? bah! take that and try some "Tonkatsu ramen" (pork ramen) famous in Fukuoka and well know throughout Japan. The first time I tried it, I was immediately hooked and to this day try to eat once every week or two.

Another famous food mentaiko Fukuoka is deemed to mentaiko (tiny fish eggs). Mentaiko for some people does not seem very appetizing, but please do not hit until you try. Mentaiko spaghetti, for example, is a delicious treat around these parts. And of course there are many other recipes who used to mentaiko.

Transport

Contrary to the nickname given to New York, Fukuoka tends to be a little tired in the evening but usually not until quite late especially on weekends. One of the reasons why in my humble opinion is the transportation shutdown at around midnight. This is true, the subway system, train, bus stops and all, but once you press the AM. Which leaves the weary and, more often than not, drunk to take a taxi home, walk, or have even heard the "I just want to stay until the metro starts again at 6:00 before going home "line used by those who simply are not finished when its party time for last call transport system. It is not only a Special Fukuoka, to stop occurs throughout Japan.

Although the transportation system does shutdown at a time can be annoying, it's a wonderful system. Perfectly clean trains, buses and subways (which are amazingly quiet) are the result of the stop because they are all cleaned during the wee hours of the morning.

Place

Fukuoka is found on the southernmost island of the four islands Japan's key. The name of the island Kyushu. Fukuoka happens to be closer to Seoul, South Korea than it is in Tokyo. Prefecture Fukuoka is situated on the northern tip of Kyushu.
