Trip to Japan – few questions?

I’m planing on going to Japan, so…I was wondering if someone could answer a few of my questions.

First, since I don’t intend to visit Tokyo and large cities (too expencive); Does anyone know some small, traditional village possibly near the mountains (perhaps that has a hot springs near it…) that has hostels?

Second; what are the prices for the night (I’m planing on staying for two months, if it’s cheap enough, then all of 90 days)?

Third; I don’t need much, and I’m not planing on eating in five star restorants, so what’s the price of food? (ramen, maybe sushi) Is it cheaper to eat out in very cheap restorants or to cook the food yourself?

Fourth; does anyone know a ninjutsu dojo, possibly near the village (1.question)

Fourth question is not really that important, I think I could find one myself, perhaps.

If you could help me I’d apprechiate it.
basically, the first question is the most important.
hope you guys can help me.

Hmmm…traditional village near the mountains? then i suggest u can give takayama a try. its a village tat is situated in gifu prefecture. and this village is near to the japanese alps. to get there… u can try to take the bus or train from nagoya.
takayama is pretty traditional and nearby another town, Gero, has lots of onsen (hot springs). as for hostels i’m not so sure…. coz when my frens and i were there… we stayed in a Zenkoji temple in takayama. and each night cost us about 2500 yen.

as for food pricing? hmmm pretty normal compared to other parts of japan. there are streets of shop houses that sells food…. but the shops in takayama close pretty early… coz i remembered tat my frens and i went looking for food in the town around 8pm… couldn’t find much shops open selling food. in fact the streets were really quiet.

hmmm… about ninjutsu? i’ve no idea.

hope the above helps!
