Ramen Colorado Springs
Tips for snowboarding in Vail or Beaver Creek?
I finally convinced a group to go to Colorado for Spring Break the last week (sunday-wednesday) in March. We have rooms booked in AVON and will be driving into Vail every day. Now that I have the big details, I’m hoping for help with the small:
1. Will there still be big lines at the lifts this late in the season?
2. Is it possible to find free parking on the weekdays this late in the season? I will have a driver who may go back to the room to work, but would like to stay.
3. Is it worth spending a half day to a day at beaver creek when I only have a total of 3 or 4 in the area?
4. Any other tips? I’m a starving student, plan on packing my own food and water, and eating Ramen in the hotel. Any other ways to cut the expenses?
Thanks in advance!
1. This… late? It’s peak season. Colorado ski season goes until the end of April in Vail, end of May in some places like Loveland. There are only lift lines on the weekends, and they’re pretty much inescapable at Vail unless you hang out in the back bowls on some blacks double blacks
2. Vail’s free parking is about as impossible to navigate as possible. They REALLY want you to pay. It’s always pretty hard to find the free spaces. There’s no free lot, it’s just random places around Vail. Stupid, I know.
3. You’ll still be exploring Vail after 3 days, it’s pretty giant. But maybe a fourth day isn’t a bad idea at Beaver Creek. To be honest if you’re not an expert skier BC is not a great area.
4. Yeah, go somewhere other than Vail. Try exploring the locals’ areas like Loveland, Arapahoe Basin, and Mary Jane, staying in Georgetown or Dillon. Probably half the cost of Vail, not crowded, and Loveland gets more snow.
No one cares if you snowboard or ski, don’t worry about that
